We are proud to introduce visiting Artist Vicente Garcia to Jane's Art Center.
Mr. Garcia is a distinguished ceramics artist and professor at Central Connecticut State University, specializing in ceramics and sculpture. He holds dual bachelor's degrees in ceramics and sculpture from the University of Texas-Pan American and an MFA from the University of North Texas. Garcia is known for his skillful building techniques and alternative firing methods.
In 2004, he built his own ceramics studio in Simsbury, Connecticut, where he continues to create and teach. Garcia engages a global audience through his live Raku Firing demonstrations, and shares his work on Instagram @vicentegarciaart, and his website vicentegarciaart.com.

MEET AND GREET: FRIDAY 6-8PM
WORKSHOP: SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 9AM TO 5PM
The workshop will consist of four alternative firing finishing techniques Smoke, Fuming, Saggar and Raku
You should bring between 15-20 bisque-fired pieces made from stoneware, porcelain, or raku cone 10 clay bodies, fired to cone 06/05. Pieces should be no larger than 15" tall and 6" wide to fit in the kilns. Preferred item s include burnished vessels (especially those using hair, feathers, hay, or pine needles), pieces with Terra Sigillata, and wheel-thrown vases with consistent wall thickness. Hand-built and open forms are fine but may be more vulnerable to thermal shock.
Additionally, bring materials for the firing process, such as feathers, hair, and glossy magazines, some will be provided by Jane's Art Center. For safety, wear protective clothing like jeans, a long-sleeve cotton shirt, and sturdy shoes or boots (leather preferred). While jackets and eye protection will be provided, you can bring your own if desired. Don't forget a notebook for notes, a water bottle, and possibly a camera to document your work.
