Obvara Firing Workshop
Date: Saturday, October 18th
Time: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: Jane’s Art Center
Join us for a one-day, hands-on firing workshop exploring the Obvara firing process, an exciting alternative firing technique that creates beautiful, organic surface patterns on ceramic work.
What is Obvara?
Originating from Eastern Europe, Obvara involves removing hot ceramic pieces from the kiln and dipping them into a fermented flour, yeast, and sugar solution before quenching in water. This unique process leaves striking patterns ranging from smoky blacks to warm browns and golden tones, each piece developing a one-of-a-kind finish.
- Participants may bring up to 8 pieces each.
- Raku clay from Jane’s Art Center is recommended, though all clay bodies are welcome.
- All firing materials and safety equipment will be provided.
Important Safety Note:
Please wear closed-toe shoes and natural fiber clothing. Safety gear will be supplied during the workshop.
